Summary/Abstract: The piano is a universal instrument used in both classical and jazz music. The interpretation in both styles is of interest. The study refers to the musical characteristics of the instrument in the periods of classical music, the composers the technical and musical subtleties needed in the interpretation of their works. Attention is paid to the entry of the piano into jazz music. Analyzes of the interpretations of famous jazz pianists in the style of Ragtime, of the composition ‘Maple Leaf’ by Scott Joplin are presented. A comparative analysis is made between classical and jazz music.
