Summary/Abstract: In this paper I discuss the role of the dictionaries both in the native language learning, and in the foreign language one. In this respect, my attention focuses on two unfinished bilingual lexicographical works, namely Dictionnaire français-romain [French-Romanian Dictionary] (Bucharest, 1859) and Dictionarium latino-romanicum [Latin-Romanian Dictionary] (Bucharest, 1860), edited by Nicolae Nifon Bălășescu, who is a representative scholar of the Romanian culture of the 19th century. To achieve my aim, I firstly set out the corpus. Thus, my research was based on 86 articles, manually selected, out of which 65 were sorted out from Dictionnaire français-romain [French-Romanian Dictionary] and the rest, from Dictionarium latino-romanicum [Latin-Romanian Dictionary]. Referring to this inventory, I continued by identifying and analysing descriptively some grammatical, semantical, and cultural information which contribute to both the learning of the mother tongue, and to the foreign one as well. Such an analyse allows us to highlight the importance of the linguistic information in the process of language learning.
