Summary/Abstract: In this study, seventh grade students' ability to transform verbal and algebraic expressions into each other was examined. Case study, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study. The study was conducted with 20 seventh grade students. In the study, the 'Algebraic Verbal Expression Test (AVET)' prepared by the researcher was applied. The AVET test consists of two parts with sub-sections 'A' and 'B'. In the questions in the 'A' subsections, the word 'number' was used instead of variable, and in the questions in the 'B' subsections, the word 'objects' was used instead of variable. The first part of the AVET test examined the ability to transform verbal expressions into algebraic expressions, and the second part examined the skills of converting algebraic expressions into verbal expressions. Descriptive analysis was used to analyze the data in the study. At the end of the research, it was seen that the students were successful in converting verbal expressions into algebraic expressions, but they were unsuccessful in converting algebraic expressions into verbal expressions.
