Summary/Abstract: The experience of participation of the Department of General Sociology and Social Work sociologists of Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod in studies of intergenerational relations in the family is analyzed. The stages of research activity and factors of its intensification are identified. At the first stage, the research was predominantly crosscultural in nature due to the department’s involvement in international scientific and educational projects. Among these, the “Value of Children and Intergenerational Relationships” and the Panel Analysis of Intimate Relationships and Family Dynamics, conducted jointly with Chemnitz University of Technology and the University of Konstanz (Germany), stand out. The second stage was marked by increased government support for scientific research. This made it possible to implement large-scale projects related to intergenerational interaction, including the impact of other social institutions functioning. Finally, at the present stage, the main actors in the intensification of research activity have become non-profit organizations that construct social problems and form new technologies for social protection, as well as local authorities interested in obtaining more in-depth information to solve the demographic problems of the region.
