Summary/Abstract: The study is dedicated to a specific issue in social history – the formation of philosophical culture in Bulgarian society at the time of its transition to modernity. The social and cultural conditions during the 18th and 19th centuries are briefly outlined. Special attention is paid to the philosophy of the Greek Enlightenment which strongly influenced the formation of the Bulgarian literati during the 18th and 19th centuries. The study focuses on the Greek educational institutions where Bulgarians were taught philosophy and on the spread of Greek-language philosophy works in settlements where Bulgarians lived. It offers concrete examples which reveal the role of Greek culture as a factor in the building of Bulgarian philosophical culture.
