Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to describe the construction of the homily as an autonomous text. The article distinguishes between the substantive and structural levels through which the Word proclaimed in the celebration will be given a characteristic typological shape. Consequently, there is no semiotic link between the structure of the homily and the other texts. The aim here is to allow for the so-called ‘disposition of the content’ during the proclamation of the Word in the liturgy. Autonomy described in this fashion bridges the gap between the meaning communicated by the priest (what is said) and the meaning of the text actually received by the audience (what is understood).
