Summary/Abstract: After more than twenty years of Visegrad cooperation, some politicians and commentators still happen to occasionally pronounce it “dead”. This chorus of poorly informed gravediggers has accompanied the Visegrad Group activities for years. And even if it is increasingly seen as part of Central and Eastern Europe’s political folklore, the decision-makers would do well remembering that the collaboration among Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary is not in itself a foregone conclusion. Although there are many fine examples of Central and Eastern European cooperation and brotherhood, diametrically different experiences actually prevail in the region’s history — and their legacy has not disappeared with accession into the EU and NATO.
