Summary/Abstract: Understanding the semantics of the word voda in its spatial terms is associated with the notion that this word in the Russian language is conceptualized as a three-dimensional object: в воде, and as a two-dimensional extension: на воде, по воде. The combined topological characteristics of the word voda suggest that spatial conceptualisation is determined by two topological concepts: a volume and a plane. This article discusses the second type of these conceptualisations and determines its grammatical forms, identifies the lexical environment of structures with lexeme voda, and solves the task of systematising the vocabulary of words in its notion as defined in I. Bunin‘s prose texts as a surface of water. The conceptualisation of lexeme voda in its notion, defined as a surface in I. Bunin‘s prose texts, has two types of representation: grammatical and lexical. During analysis, it was found that the spatial grammatical conceptualisation of surface value is based on locative (на воде), directive (на воду), and transitive (по воде) syntaxemes formed by constructions with prepositions and lexeme voda declensional compounds. This study shows that the lexical contexts of these constructionswith lexeme voda and spatial prepositions are presented by verbs of different semantic groups as well as some nouns. On the basis of its relation to topology, the term surface is designated as a plane, a twodimensional spatial extent. Therefore, the lexical systematisation of means designated to express the meaning of surface of water in I. Bunin‘s prose texts is based on its reference to topology and L. Talmy’s topological type. Thus, a wide range of lexemes found in I. Bunin’s discourse, such as равнина, поле, зеркало, зеркальность, поверхность, горы, холмы, бугры, etc., can be described topologically as a plane and a bulge, and are used to designate the surface of water. ..
