Summary/Abstract: The Hungarian Criminal Code of 1978 is the youngest and therefore the most recent of the codes in the Eastern and Central European countries. It has understandably drawn interest from the very beginning, which has focused primarily on the system of penal measures contained therein. The attention was drawn mainly by the introduction of a monetary penalty calculated according to daily rates, as well as the extremely varied and rich list of penal measures. These included some entirely new or almost new solutions concerning the institutions comprising the various forms of conditional sentencing. It therefore seems highly advisable to familiarise oneself with the conditional sentencing solutions effective under Hungarian law. This study is only concerned with adult persons found guilty of offences under the common criminal law.
