Summary/Abstract: For centuries the German–Russian relations were crucial for the European security. Luckily, they are not an issue of war and peace anymore, the time of mortal rivalry belongs to the past. The breakdown of the Soviet Union gave the possibility to open a new chapter in bilateral affairs. This article deals with the development of the German-Russian relations of the last two decades. It tries to examine if Berlin was able to reach its main targets. By looking at the development of the Russia-German-EU relations and the German perception of Russia’s policy, this article seeks prospects for future development.
