Summary/Abstract: In the years 1887–1888, the tsarist authorities resettled to the Orenburg province 40 so called „resistant” Uniates, who had been deported several years earlier to the Kherson and ekaterinoslav governorates, together with their family members then living in Southern Podlasie. A total of nearly 300 people were sent on their way to exile. At the place of settlement, to the surprise of the local authorities, they preferred to suffer poverty rather than accept the help offered by the Russian state. The stay of the Uniates in exile in the Orenburg Governorate, though dramatic in terms of living and psychological conditions, did not break their spirit of resistance. Surrounded by the influence of the Orthodox Church, not only did they not come closer to it, but rather they strengthened their ties with the Roman Catholic Church and became Polonized.
