Summary/Abstract: When we launched the call for an issue dedicated to the Balkans and the dynamics of its modern developments we did not expect to receive such a large number of manuscripts. In the end, we decided to dedicate two issues of the journal to this topic and to integrate them into a single review. The issues tackled in these articles deal mostly with contemporary aspects such as energy security in the Balkan region (Mehmet Efe Biresselioglu), extremism as an intelligence problem (Chris Deliso), post-communist Bulgaria’s political discourse (Rossen Vassiliev), the development of the Romanian civil society (Cristina Spinei).
