Appearance of and Changes in Certain Family Names in the Village of Ruzhevo Konare

Summary/Abstract: The author studies the appearance and development of the family names of the inhabitants of the village of Ruzhevo Konare, Plovdiv district, from the 18th century to our own day. His statistics are founded on studies made on the spot by the author. An analysis of the origin of the names showed that many of them appeared in connection with the profession or certain distinctive physical features of the individual. In certain cases unusual features in the clothing or the way of life of individuals had an influence on the family names. The author finds a marked stability in these family names in the course of several generations, regardless of the fact that their holders today have long since broken with the elements which served as the basis for these names, or do not possess them.
