Summary/Abstract: The article analyses all available English-language, Soviet, Bulgarian and contemporary Russian studies dealing with the question of the Soviet model and its application to the Bulgarian economy. They stem from different fields of scientific knowledge and constitute different ways of interpreting the problems of the most recent history. An Attempt is made to sift out what is valuable in the accumulated economic, politological, sociological and historical works, examining the view of the indicated groups of authors on the nature of the model, the causes for and circumstances of its imposition, the methods and mechanisms of its application, evaluation of its adequacy and productivity in Bulgarian conditions. The survey of the contemporary treatment of this theme which projects the wider scientific problems of the relationship between politics and economics, the ratio of the internal to the external factor, of the intrinsic value and the contribution to history, makes it possible to discover new methodological reference points of study. The peculiar balance-sheet of the accumulations in science and the clashes of different views in it, compared with newly discovered documents make it possible to outline the future prospects of research.
