Summary/Abstract: The article addresses methods for determining the amount of payments for state insured persons in the public health insurance system. The first part of the article provides a description of health care financing systems that are generally applied worldwide, i.e. both private and public health insurance systems. In addition, the author provides a summary of the methods applied for determining the amount of payments for state insured persons in the Czech Republic. In the second part of the article, the author presents an analysis of both the current method used to determine the amount of insurance premiums for state insured persons and a number of variants proposed by the author himself. The results suggest that the most suitable method comprises the variant that considers the median wage. On the other hand, the current method applied for determining payments for state insured persons achieves the least satisfactory results and can, therefore, be described as the least suitable variant.
