Summary/Abstract: The linguistic research that Popović carried out at the end of the 19th century will further be expanded in our through the inclusion of new information, which has been compiled over a period of 120 years of work on Njegoš’ language (and more improved methodology) – furthermore, it was interesting to reanalyze the awe that Popović had for Njegoš’ work and to actualize his views on the language (diction) of Mountain Wreath. Furthermore, our intention was to study, in more detail, Popović’s main attitude that all the characters of Mountain Wreath were from among the ranks of common people, and that they therefore must also use the language of the common folk. That is why in this paper we wanted to answer the following questions: the extent to which the language of this poem matches the dialectical base to which Njegoš belonged, and just how much the poet distanced himself from it, selecting characters in accordance with Vuk’s norms, or whether he, following his linguistic instinct, by distancing himself from the rules of both his own speech and Vuk’s model, created his own poetic expression.
