Summary/Abstract: The present paper consists of two main parts. In the first one the history of anthroponymic research in South Slavic domain is briefly outlined. In the second part the author deals with the double-stemmed given names in Serbian, by analyzing their semantics, the origin of their constitutive elements and their formation. In the conclusion she states the productivity of nominal compounding in Sebian onomasticon through its history since the Early Middle Ages up to the present day and distinguishes between three main types of compounds: names consisting of two Slavic stems; hybrid names with one element borrowed; anthroponymic calques, formed after foreign, mainly Greek patterns.
