Summary/Abstract: In 1835 the Universities of St. Peterburg, Moscow, Kharkov and Kazan opened new departments for Slav Studies and for the purpose of better professional qualification they sent four approved young professors to spend time abroad among the Slav peoples. The study presents the long-time stay of the first Russian academic assistants Joseph Bodyanskiy, Peter Preiss, Izmail Sreznevskiy and Viktor Grigorovich among the Slavs of Habsburg Monarchy and the Turkish Empire, their every-day life, their studies and the closer relationships, they established with the most prominent representatives of the national literary circles. The direct observations of the Russian travelers are an important contribution for the understanding of the national Revival processes among the Slav peoples.
