Summary/Abstract: This work is written in regards to an article by the historian Stefan Detchev, published online in 2019. In said article, he accuses the Bulgarian historiography of the communist regime before 1990 to be directly responsible for the historical falsifications during the 1970s and 1980s that were subsequently used as a justification for the names of Bulgarian Muslims forcefully being changed. The current study presents an objection and an answer to the charges. In certain aspects, Detchev had some valuable points, but in most cases he exaggerated. Especially unacceptable are the attacks on the Bulgarian historical guild as a whole.
