Summary/Abstract: The Voluntary Water Rescue Service (commonly referred to as WOPR) operates pursuant to the Polish act of 18 August 2011 concerning the safety of persons present in water areas. The main tasks of the service include: undertaking rescue operations, organizing and providing aid to persons involved in accidents (that means sudden events that occur during swimming, bathing or practicing sports or recreational activities in water areas, which could result in an injury of an organ of the body or in health impairment) or to persons exposed to a threat of losing their life or health while in or near water.
