Summary/Abstract: The commemoration of SS Cyril and Methodius is found in the Sanctorale of several 20th century Latin liturgical books. The Catholic Church honors their memory by an office according to the hierarchy of feasts. The edition of the Antiphonale Romanum, 1912 contains the notated repertory for this office. Hence certain questions arise: could such an office be found in manuscripts or early printed antiphoners dated before the beginning of 20th century; to which period of the European history would the establishment of the office be related; is the chant repertory that is included borrowed from already existing offices, or it is more likely to assume that it was compiled especially for the newly-established office. The present paper intends to cast some preliminary light upon the questions mentioned above. Additionally, confirmation of the origin of the chant is sought by researching the melodic contents of certain antiphons containing the office of Cyril and Methodius.
