The Anti-Latin Polemic of Gregorius Palamas and Barlaam from Calabria in the 16th Century Parts of the Codex Decani 88 and the Slavic Handwriting Tradition

Summary/Abstract: This article examines the text excerpts from the chronologically younger parts of the Codex 88 from Decani monastery, which were written by two different copyists during the 16th century. The excerpts are compared to all presently known copies of the same works - the copy from Hilandar, the copy from Kishinev and also three copies by Visarion Debarski. The results of the full collation of the Slavic sources are presented in a systematical way. Based on this analysis and on the parallels in the different Greek editions conclusions regarding the textological discrepancy of the late copyists' parts mDecani 88 and regarding the authenticity of the other five Slavic copies in comparison to the original translation can be reached. The study sheds new light on the correlations between the different copies and suggests some corrections of the stemma developed by Y. Kakridis in 1988, who based his work on a smaller number of manuscript sources.
