Summary/Abstract: The essay examines the topic of legitimacy of popular culture as potentially productive space and autonomous field of specific genres, narrative patterns, economic conditions and stemming pleasures. In particular, what is addressed is the discrepancy between the cult of television serial genre on one side and its denouncement in the eyes of art criticism in contemporary Czech society. The authors illustrate that unlike the viewers and producers, most eloquent elitist critiques do not exhibit much respect for the genre of television serial.
