Summary/Abstract: The modern era, and not just the present day, might be described as the era of fraglnented thought. 'Theorising has become science, sociology has become philosophy, reporting has become history, and certainty has become truth. Expediency appears to have removed frOIU the horizon of the ideal life all idea of a community, which is the very purpose of human activity, and is the teleological value of expediency. Theory has tnade literature itself a function of social existence and not a part of the spiritual order. Yet genuine art, that is art that is more than a purely aesthetic phenomenon, by its very nature shapes chaos into a cosmos, and forms existential experience into a personality.
