Since its foundation by Cassander, general and brother in law of Alexander the Great, the Greek town has known various stages of development or transformation along the centuries, registering the main events of the region’s history. Ecclesiastic architecture represents an important part in the urban landscape with vestiges reminding of various similar monuments in Romania. Cultural references and facts enrich the complex history of Thessaloniki. The religious neighborhoods define its place in the Christian world.
It looks therefore as the ideal ploace to host the European Prize for Theatre – 2007 edition –, an institution of European cultural interest. Having participated in this event, the author comments on the laureates and their works and on the “Zadek” episode |
