Summary: Self-government and internal policy
The Prague Jewish community, similarly to other Jewish communities in Bohemia and Moravia, enjoyed a considerable degree of autonomy. The leading officials of the community had considerable powers in political, economic and judicial matters. The most important function of the self-government was to collect Jewish taxes from the members of the community, and to pay them to the State. The most controversial issue was the distribution of taxes among the individual tax-payers....
